We cooperate with the most vulnerable territorial entities (women, nomads and children) to offer you a unique travel experience that promotes social and economic development. We promote sustainable and respectful tourism.
Tismarte women's cooperative (Merzouga)
According to Itto Otlahsan (director, promoter of the activities and soul of the Cooperative): "TISMARTE is a word that refers to a specific type of belt used by Amazigh women in order to hold the cloth that covers them during the day." daily or in celebrations (usually white) and is called AHROY. These belts are made from wool coils. The tismarte is a traditional braided accessory that combines multiple colors. The choice of the name TISMARTE for our cooperative responds to. the ambition that all women and girls in the region be carriers of this important accessory of Amazigh culture in general and of the AIT KHABASH tribe in particular. The choice of the name TISMARTE for our cooperative also responds to the aspiration that all women and girls of KHABASHIA represent the colors of the belt in terms of their motivation in work and diligence. On the other hand, it is worth highlighting their solid and “intertwined” action, as represented by the tismarte, which would push cooperation between women to prosper. in community and create a path based on the bases of tradition but always consistent with the open-mindedness that would allow an evolutionary change in the condition of women in the desert. Khabite women must support and motivate themselves to develop self-confidence "in terms of important and at the same time productive entities of this society."
Solidarity travel plan for the empowerment of desert women
If you want to include a visit to the Women's Cooperative in your personalized travel plan, we will be happy to offer you this unique and supportive experience. Itto will warmly welcome us with a mint tea and, if you wish, we can share an unforgettable evening with the women of the village tasting Moroccan cuisine. We can also organize group cooking workshops (tagine, homemade bread, couscous...). On the other hand, we can also make an appointment to get a henna tattoo or see the clothing models for sale. If you want personalized designs, we can advise you to create them either for groups or for yourself. For newly married couples we can organize an Amazigh wedding ceremony (traditional clothing, ahidous...). We tailor-make your celebration in the Sahrawi style, and specifically, of the Aït Khabach tribe. If you simply fancy a photo session in the desert with traditional clothing, we can also offer you this service.
Nomad Project
We offer you personalized travel plans that include support for the nomadic populations of the desert with the installation of solar panels. An engineer will inform us about the price of the material and assembly and we will be able to actively participate in a social work of cooperation and development.
Traveling as a family (Conscious childhood)
We begin the dissemination for a new collaborative project with the Merzouga school. Conscious tourism trip designed for all families with children, with an adventurous and supportive desire. During this year 2020 we will develop this proposal in a first school ("Escola - Ampa La Canonja" - Tarragona). The initiative aims to constitute a pilot plan to progressively extend these trips to other interested schools. The plan will be carried out during the Easter period of 2021 and will combine activities for both children and adults. A great option to enjoy with your family, getting to know another culture and providing tools for the development of this community in the Moroccan Sahara Desert. If you are an independent family, a group or association of parents or a school and are interested in making an explanatory demo about the family travel project, we will be happy to arrange an informative appointment, with the option of a PowerPoint presentation to all interested families.
